Fifth Graders Start Science with Mindset Study

Neuroplasticity was a key word in fifth grade’s mindset study. Students explored the mindset phenomenon which helped them begin sorting their reactions and attitudes into fixed and growth mindset categories. Fifth grade definitions of the term neuroplasticity follow:

  • flexible, bendable brain
  • ability to learn new things
  • changing your brain by doing new things
  • the brain has room to grow

Student work during a mindset lesson.

Students also wrote and performed short skits to show their understanding of growth and fixed mindsets. A great example is posted below:

Being willing to practice learning through reading shows a growth mindset!
