Sophomores attend SWCC Career Day

Central Decatur sophomores had the opportunity to attend the Southwestern Community College (SWCC) Career Day on October 10th.

This event was designed to help students explore a variety of career pathways and gain hands-on experience in areas that match their interests and future goals. Prior to attending, students registered for the event and selected from ten different career areas, including Automotive, Professional Music, Computer Networking, Health Science, Carpentry, Welding, Agriculture, Electrical, AA/AD Degree Transfer and Applied Engineering Technology.’

School Counselor Cayle Chastain-Buckingham, along with Reece Tedford from TRIO and para associate Renee Long, accompanied 48 Central Decatur students to the event. Throughout the day, students engaged in interactive sessions and hands-on activities led by instructors and professionals in their chosen fields. These sessions allowed students to ask questions, explore career options, and gain a better understanding of the education and skills required for different professions.

Events like SWCC Career Day provide valuable opportunities for students to begin thinking about their future pathways—whether that means college, technical training, or entering the workforce after graduation. Central Decatur continues to emphasize the importance of career exploration as part of student success planning. Later this school year, CD eighth graders will have the chance to attend a similar career exploration event, helping them to start thinking early about their interests and potential career goals.

This experience not only connects students with real-world learning opportunities but also encourages them to envision a future that aligns with their skills and passions.
