Hello! I’m Mrs. Carmichael, your K–6 School Counselor at Central Decatur. I am so excited to partner with our students, families, and staff to help every child grow academically, socially, and emotionally. My goal is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where all students feel safe, valued, and confident in who they are.
As a school counselor, I strive to help students build the skills they need to be successful—both in school and in life. Through classroom lessons, small groups, and individual support, I aim to guide students in developing healthy relationships, problem-solving abilities, and a strong sense of self-awareness.
I also believe in the importance of working closely with parents, caregivers, and educators to ensure each child has the tools and encouragement needed to thrive. Together, we can nurture lifelong learners who are prepared to face challenges, celebrate their strengths, and become responsible, compassionate members of our community.
I’m honored to be part of the Central Decatur family and look forward to supporting our students as they learn, grow, and achieve their goals!

What Does a School Counselor Do?
As your school counselor, I support students through:
• Classroom Lessons: Social-emotional learning, friendship skills, goal-setting, and more.
• Small Groups: Focused on topics like friendship, coping skills, self-confidence, or changing families.
• Individual Support: One-on-one check-ins to help with school, friends, or feelings.
• Collaboration: Partnering with families, teachers, and staff to help each student succeed.
