Fire House Teaches Fire Safety

Students in first, second, third, and fourth grade were able to learn more about Fire Safety and escaping from a smoke filled room when the Blank Children’s Fire Safety House visited Central Decatur on Oct. 25. We would like to thank Blank Children’s Hospital Fire House staff, Doug Moffet, Leon Fire Department Volunteers, Cindy Stiles, and to the Central Decatur PTO for sponsoring this visit.

Students learned about common fire hazards in part 1 and then practiced escaping from a bedroom window in part 2 of the Fire House. Students also completed a variety of fire safety themed activities as part of the day. The students used computer science programming and the Bee-Bots to program a robot to arrive at a variety of fire safety equipment. They also completed a Sparky the Dog origami project, wrote a comic strip to teach Stop, Drop, and Roll, and completed some word searches and puzzles related to fire safety.
