Seventh Grade Life Science Class Conducts Flower Experiment

Life science classes have been learning about the characteristics of life and the scientific method. Student groups were given a carnation flower for their experiment, in which they had to research a method to try and keep their fresh cut flower to live longer. Groups then set up their experiment to test their hypothesis, observe and record daily the appearance of their flower. Groups have experimented with aspirin, baking soda, sugar, banana peels, Sprite, epsom salt, aloe vera and pennies. This experiment started on September 22, and as of Oct. 12, one flower with Sprite in it and another flower with pennies have lasted the longest.
