Central Trail FFA Members Visit the Iowa FFA Floriculture Career Development Event

The Louisa-Muscatine FFA Chapter at Letts was named the Champion Team in the annual Iowa FFA Floriculture Career Development Event held at Kirkwood Community College on June 11, 2024. Members of the first place team included: Ashton Coder, Emma Lamp, Miley Ossian, and Lexie Eaton. Their agriculture education instructor and FFA advisor is Mr. Adam Crews. They will represent Iowa at the National Floriculture Career Development Event at Indianapolis, Indiana, in October. The Muscatine FFA Chapter was named the Reserve Champion Team. Members of the second place team included: Kacie Jana Riess, Anna Boyer, Kale Wiebel, and Claire Brown-Lincoln. Their agriculture education instructors and FFA advisors are Mr. Sam Paul, Mr. Dave Tometich, Ms. Ashley Wiebe, Mrs. Alexa Coobs, and Ms. Alli Youngbauer. Emma Lamp, Louisa-Muscatine FFA Chapter at Letts, was named the High Individual Overall in the competition. 
FFA teams from 47 chapters including 164 individuals participated in this year’s Career Development Event designed to provide students an opportunity to display their agricultural knowledge and skills in the area of Floriculture. The event consisted of a general knowledge exam, problem solving and decision making, plant identification, floral design, pesticide use and application, floral production, and a team activity.

Representing the Central Trail FFA were Riley Yoder ’24, Jamie Oesch ’24, Zoey Hamilton ’26, and Angel Easton ’26 , who finished 23rd out of 47 teams, receiving a Silver Rating! Riley Yoder excelled as she was 31st high individual out of 164 individuals, closely followed by Zoey who was the 57th high individual! As a team they ranked as the 15th highest team in General Knowledge and15th highest team in Problem Solving! This was a great experience for these FFA members where they not only showcased their skills, but also gained immense knowledge through their participation!
