On Wednesday, May 6th, Central Decatur Middle and High School students participated in the annual Red Way Day of Service. This day is spent by Central Decatur students going around town doing local beautification and clean-up projects to serve their community. Teachers were assigned a group of students and a project to complete. Groups picked up sticks and burned leaves, cleaned community centers and parks, rebuilt a shed at the county farm, and painted road markings and curbs.
Students worked at the Little League Fields, the Decatur County Historical Museum, SCIT Theatre, New 2-U, Little River Lake, and South Elementary. Other groups went to locations outside of town such as Decatur, Van Wert, Grand River and Slip Bluff Park. Students also helped in Grand River by relocating the American Legions’ flags to a new storage trailer, cleaning the city maintenance building, and burning debris. The school provided sub sandwiches for all the students and staff for lunch, and the Student Council provided pizza at the end of the day.
None of this would have been possible without Central Decatur’s High School Student Council and Mrs. Tricia Applegate. They organized the event, came up with ideas for service projects and contacted community members and city administrators to finalize the plans for the day.
Central Decatur students represented the RED Way, demonstrating respect, excellence, and dedication to our community.Β Β
