Meet Dan Johnson, Jr-Sr High Principal

Hello, I am Dan Johnson and I am excited to join the Central Decatur Cardinal Family as the 7 -12 Principal.  This fall will be my 31st year in public education.  I earned my bachelor of science from Iowa State University in 1991 and my Masters in Educational Leadership from Viterbo University in 2005.  Prior to joining the Cardinals of Central Decatur, I spent twenty years as a high school social studies teacher at Lincoln High School in Des Moines.  In addition to teaching, I also coached boys and girls swimming and also served as an assistant activities director during that time.  In 2011, I took my first educational leadership position with the Des Moines Public Schools as a School Improvement Leader/Associate Principal.  I spent 8 years in this role in both middle and high school before accepting the high school principal position with the Webster City Community Schools.  For the last two years I have been serving in that position.  As an instructional leader I believe that all students can learn, and it’s essential that we work collaboratively to implement systems to support all students on their path to being excellent.  My wife Amy and I recently celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with our pets.   I have a few hobbies that keep me busy when I am not in school including swimming, beekeeping and salt water aquariums.  I look forward to working with you so do not hesitate to stop and say hello.
