We have noticed our students overall lack of fine (small muscles including fingers, hands, wrists) and gross (large muscles including torso, legs, arms) motor skills. We feel this may be due to kids spending more time on screens/devices and not using major muscles on a day-to-day basis. In order to help with this deficit, we began implementing Preschool PE this year. We focus on specific skills to help build core strength and stamina with activities such as balancing, crossing the midline, running, jumping, crawling, catching, throwing, kicking, etc. The best practice for three- and four-year-olds is PLAY– encourage free play with small and large toys while being active inside and outside.
