Collaboration Takes Orchard Plans to Fruition

It all began with a text from Mr. Chris Coffelt suggesting a fruit orchard would be a neat project! This was followed up by a generous donation provided by GRM Networks under the guidance of Mr. Kyle Kelso, which allowed an idea to become a reality. The Central Decatur Plant Science students created Fruit Orchard Designs and with assistance from Mr. Coffelt were able to make their plans take action. We are looking forward to a fruit harvest of Honeycrisp Apples, Red Delicious Apples, and Anjou Pears in the upcoming years for the Central Decatur Lunch Program. Thanks to Mike Durrell who traveled to Bentley Ridge Tree Farm in Grimes, IA to pick up our trees, Mike Foltz and DCLI of Leon, IA for providing the equipment to dig the holes for our group, Mr. Calieb Kistler for equipment operation, and the plant science students for planting the trees!
