The Central Decatur chapter of the National Honor Society (NHS) held its annual induction ceremony on Thursday October 16th, celebrating the achievements of outstanding students who exemplify the organization’s four pillars: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
New members inducted into the prestigious organization include Shiann Byrd, Lola Helton, Eliana Muller, Aubri Perkins, Elsa Schaff, Soiyer Smith, Jadira Suazo, Megan Young, Breece Cornett, Morgan Havlik, Mildred Waugh, and Dallas Quayle. Each inductee was recognized for their dedication to academic excellence and their commitment to serving both the school and the community.
A highlight of the evening was the address delivered by Mrs. Heidi Bell, last year’s NHS Teacher of the Year. In her heartfelt speech, Mrs. Bell referenced the classic book The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein, encouraging students to lead lives of generosity and selflessness. She reminded inductees that true leadership often means giving of oneself for the benefit of others—echoing the values that lie at the heart of the National Honor Society.
The National Honor Society is one of the nation’s premier organizations recognizing high school students for exceptional achievement in academics, leadership, service, and character. Membership in NHS is both an honor and a responsibility, inspiring students to make a positive difference in their school and community.
As the newly inducted members begin their journey in NHS, the Central Decatur community celebrates their accomplishments and looks forward to the lasting contributions they will continue to make.
