Central Decatur students deserve one modern elementary built for today’s enrollment. This plan consolidates the district’s elementary programs onto one site, creating long-term efficiencies for tax dollars and major improvements to school safety for generations of students to come.
Create Operational Efficiencies
- Central Decatur has been operating two elementary buildings as one unified program for years. Bringing staff and resources together under one roof will let the district invest those same dollars directly into students, rather than into maintaining multiple facilities.
- The proposed facility is thoughtfully designed to match the district’s longterm educational needs, providing flexible, age appropriate and efficient learning spaces now and into the future.
Improvements to School Safety
- This plan brings all students to one location while maintaining complete physical separation between elementary, middle, and high school spaces—giving our youngest learners a safe, nurturing environment to grow.
- The Junior/Senior High School main entrance will be updated with a secure vestibule, allowing staff to better monitor and control visitor access into the building.
- The project also replaces original exterior doors throughout the 1985 building, addressing aging infrastructure and improving the building’s overall performance for years to come.
Modernize Learning Environments
This November’s ballot question funds the elementary consolidation and safety improvements throughout the district. Passing it also clears the way for the future, using district SAVE dollars (revenue from statewide sales tax) to expand hands-on career and technical training programs at the junior/senior high school building, with dedicated space for nursing, agriculture, and industrial technology programs.
Maximize Use of Tax Dollars
- Under this plan, the tax levy is projected to increase by $4.05 per $1,000 of taxable property value. This is a responsible plan that will save taxpayer dollars in the long run, and the district is committed to transparency throughout this project.
- Careful stewardship of community resources serves as the foundation for the proposed bond initiative— reflecting a thoughtful, sustainable approach that balances long-term investment with respect for taxpayers.
