On October 7th, the 2026 Business Law class of Central Decatur successfully met their goal of registering at least 90% of the senior class to vote. This class project gave students hands-on experience with civic engagement, legal literacy, event planning, marketing, and professional communication. Students took the lead in organizing the event, designing promotional materials, volunteer T-shirts and coordinating with community partners. In addition, the students worked with Central Decatur’s student-based enterprises. Coffee for the event was purchased from Early Bird Coffee Shop at the school, and volunteer T-shirts were produced by The Birdhouse, the school’s new DECA club-operated print shop.
A special thanks to Stephanie Daughton, Decatur County Auditor, for joining students the day of the event to answer questions, Casey’s for providing pizza for the volunteers, and the Rotary Club of Decatur County for sponsoring the snacks, drinks, and volunteer shirts for the event. The voter registration drive was organized by the Business Law class as part of its effort to earn the prestigious Carrie Chapman Catt award, presented by Iowa Secretary of State Paul D. Pate. Through this initiative, students not only applied what they learned about civic responsibility, but also encouraged their peers to take an active role in the democratic process.
