Members of the Central Decatur High School Rodeo Team converged on Bloomfield, IA for the Iowa High School Rodeo Association Finals on June 9-11, 2023. High School Rodeo Contestants were vying for a spot in the Top 4 positions, which would advance them to the the National High School Rodeo Association Finals held in Gillette, WY on July 16-22, 2023. Coming out on top and advancing to the NHSRA Finals will be Layni Masters, Lane Leeper, Mason Allen, and Cooper Horton.
Layni, a Senior Member of the Central Decatur Rodeo Team, was named the Champion Iowa High School Rodeo Breakaway Roper and also placed 3rd overall in the Goat Tying. Layni also competes in Team Roping. Lane Leeper was crowned the Champion Iowa High School Rodeo Bareback Rider, Reserve Champion Iowa High School Rodeo Saddle Bronc Rider, and Reserve Champion Iowa High School Rodeo in the Bull Riding. Mason Allen advanced to national competition in the Saddle Bronc Riding where he placed 4th in the state of Iowa. Mason also competed in Calf Roping and Team Roping. Cooper Horton will represent the state of Iowa as the Reserve Champion Iowa High School Rodeo Bareback Rider. Cooper also competes in Saddle Bronc Riding and Bull Riding. Also competing was Bly Hunt who competes in Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, Goat Tying, Breakaway Roping and Team Roping.
